George is a young actor from London who was performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I was commissioned to do a shoot with him one of the evenings he was in town. It happened to be the only day of that week without rain which was brilliant.
The plan was to shoot at multiple locations around the Scottish capital, and we started rather late in the day at the famous Lauriston Castle. The inconvenient of shooting late was that we had to chase the light for the 2 hours we had. At Lauriston, we had to hurry not only because of the light but because the estate was closing within 30min. But we did manage to get the shot above (which reminded me of little Billy Eliot’s Joie de vivre) and this one more thoughtful in the estate’s Japanese garden:
We then went along the Forth coast road up to Leith for a few shots at the harbour before heading to Calton Hill in down town Edinburgh. By then the light was disappearing by the second, but we got some fun exposures, though:
